Each flip is an independent 50/50 draw from your browser's random number generator. A run of five or six the same way is normal in 100 flips — that is what surprises people most.

Long runs are normal here

In a thousand fair flips a streak of ten identical results is expected rather than surprising. It is not evidence that anything is rigged. A coin has no memory: after nine heads the next flip is still 50/50, and nothing on this page is a test of whether a real coin is fair.

The single most common answer is a longest run of exactly ten, at 23.9%, and the average is 10.3.

The tally

An exact 500-500 finish happens 2.5% of the time. Seven sets in ten land between 484 and 516, and 95.4% land between 469 and 531. A result outside that band once in twenty sets is the design, not a fault.

The gap grows while the percentage settles

This is the part people have backwards. The share of heads does close in on half as the flips pile up. The gap between heads and tails does the opposite and gets bigger.

More than half of thousand-flip sets, 54.8%, end with heads and tails at least twenty apart. Nothing pulls them back together; the total simply grows faster than the gap does. Compare it directly against a hundred flips and fifty flips, or go back to the coin flip hub.
